Watching the Oscars got me thinking. Why do so many people watch?
I enjoy the amazing outfits. I appreciate the awards for creative excellence. I enjoy the humor, the music and the production value.
I love to be entertained. Yet what is it about movies that transport us to alternate realities or highlights the reality we desire, love or hate.
We watch. We are transfixed by magical fantasy. We get absorbed by the characters’ stories. We forget our own lives and enter those on screen.
Humans love being taken away from our reality.
We love being entertained.
We create stories about what’s true or who we imagine is our screen friend. We vote in our own minds for who deserves the Oscar. When the famous actor/actress reads the envelope we gasp. Did our favorite win? As they make their way up to the stage, we wait to hear what they have to say. Hey, we may even secretly imagine that we’re on the stage at the Oscars.
I’m wondering, what is the part of you that deserves an award?
Is it a project, a production, your body of work or some kind act for which you deserve adulation.
Take 5 minutes and imagine that you’re up on stage in front of a standing ovation. Hear people clapping and see the smiles of pride on their faces for you.
Go live your dreams. As Joaquin Phoenix said when he received his Oscar for best actor, “Use our voice for the voiceless.” That’s what movies can give us. A voice for important issues that anyone has access to.
Go do the important things that you care about and ENJOY!
Love,
Alyse
P.S. Let me know what you think.
