Life is full of so many precious unexpected moments. And often they fly by and we don’t notice them.
It means that we have to be on the look out and notice something unusual.
Sometimes the moments can be huge and other times very small. Noticing involves being present in the moment. And if we want to savor the moment, we need to stop any other task that we may be doing.
What’s the precious unexpected moment this week?
I’m working at my desk, facetiming one of my clients. I happen to glance out of my window and I couldn’t keep my surprise to myself. Then I counted one, two, three, four chickens pecking away at the grass between the flagstones.
To stay present with my client and savor the delicious surprise out my window, I decided to explore the significance of the moment with my client. The sighting of the chickens became a metaphor for how to deal with the unexpected. This theme directly related to what we were discussing in our session.
The chickens belong to my next door neighbors. I immediately wondered, “how did the chickens find their way into my yard, since the fence line is secure?”
I guessed that they wandered down their driveway, out under their gate and down the street and into our yard. These 2 legged gorgeous birds were happy minding their own business. Except I didn’t want to be responsible for the chickens going AWAL.
I had about 10 minutes to deal with the chickens. I decided to go and knock on my neighbors front door. After speaking, she agreed to come over a few minutes later.
Corralling the chickens
She arrived with her 4 year old, a rake and I found a snow shovel, which seemed like the best tool to get chickens to do what I wanted. Corralling chickens isn’t an easy task. They tend to run as we attempted to block their path and catch them in our hands.
I managed to grab Spirit and Shamalah, the two friendlier rusty colored chickens. I placed them gently over the fence in my neighbors yard.
The two grey chickens whose names I can’t recall, are more tricky to catch. After lots of giggles and going in and out of the shrubbery, my neighbor was able to stop them in their crazy tracks.
Phew! All was quiet. As I happened to look out of the window for the rest of the day, all I saw was the occasional visits from the disinterested neighbor’s cat.
What unexpected thing did you see, find or do this week?
I’d love to hear. And I’m really interested to hear how whatever you experience might be a metaphor that you can directly apply in your life.
FYI … My upcoming program
Over the past few months I’ve been conducting interviews and digging into how women feel about the Imposter Syndrome. What astounds me is how almost EVERYONE I spoke to doubted themselves in some way or other, no matter their level of success.
I’ve created a small group 3-month virtual program based on what I’ve heard.
It’s Time to Get Your Life Back in 2021: From Self Doubt to Hell YES!
It begins on January 12, 2021. The program is a small group online with 1-2-1 coaching. There are limited spots.
If you’d like to hear more, check out the info page and we can schedule a time to chat.
I loved this story, Alyse! We learn something new each day and can appreciate the lives and activities of our fellow creatures on this earth! Thanks for sharing!
